Spanish – Clases de español

¡ Bienvenidos a la clase de español!

As the second most commonly spoken language in the world, Spanish has become part of our academics. Studying a foreign language not only opens the doors to other cultures but also enhances employment opportunities. Through our Spanish program, students gain an appreciation for languages and develop a respect for the people and customs different than their own.  Spanish is integrated throughout Pre-K – 2nd grade, while students in sixth through eighth grade attend Spanish class once a week.

Our Teachers

Magda Arguello – PreK – 1st grade

Profesora María, like our students like to call her, has been in the United States for the past 3 years. Originally from Paraguay, Profesora María lived in Spain for about 10 years where she met her husband.  She is the mother of three boys and is looking forward to enrolling her oldest in our Pre-K program. Profesora María works with our Pre-K – 2nd grade students building each year upon previously learned material.

Clare Roach- Junior High Spanish Teacher

Sra. Roach is the Coordinator of our two-way immersion program and our Junior High Spanish Teacher.  She holds a degree in political science and Spanish and a Masters from the University of Notre Dame. Sra. Roach is the mother of four children, originally form Rockville, Maryland and taught at a historically black school in Montgomery, Alabama through Notre Dame’s Alliance for Catholic Education program.

Our Junior High students come at different levels of Spanish fluency and Sra. Roach understands teaching Spanish isn’t a one-size-fits-all approach. Sra. Roach’s classes are separated in way she can serve both Heritage Spanish Speakers and foreign language learners. To learn more about our Heritage Book Club, click here.
